If you've recently switched to a VOIP phone company such as Vonage, Packet8, Voip.com, VoipYourLife, or another VOIP offering from your cable or phone company -- OR if you have been putting off switching to a VOIP phone company because your alarm system requires a phone line connection, you can now monitor your system over your broadband internet connection.
Companies like NextAlarm and VOIPAlarm.com now offer ABN devices (Alarm Broadband Network) that permit you to hook up your alarm system control panel to your internet phone connection. If you don't have an ethernet connection near your alarm panel, don't worry, you can use a wireless network bridge such as the LINKSYS WBP54G. The ABN would then connect to the wireless bridge to allow it to communicate with the alarm monitoring system.
NextAlarm's ABN is to be used with their own monitoring services, while VOIPAlarm's Sparrow ABN can be used with certain alarm company providers that support it.
